Fast-fashion brands and their problems

By Elsa Vendrell

Nowadays, we live in a globalized world, where brands like Zara, Mango, Pull and Bear… can be found in every country. But that is a problem because they are fast fashion brands. I strongly believe that customers should avoid those brands. They contaminate a lot, workers are under bad conditions and the local products of the countries are in danger.

Firstly, the fashion industry is the most contaminating industry in the world and the one with the worst working conditions. They use a lot of water and energy. Moreover, they make clothes of a very bad quality that end up in the trash after five usages. The workers of the factories are also working more than eight hours per day, without eating, a very low salary and in a dangerous place. It is not correct to consume their products because it is a way of perpetuating this situation.

Furthermore, because of globalization these fast fashion brands are around the world. The price of their products are lower than the price of the local clothes. In addition, thesenew brands have new products every two weeks, that is why they are called “Fast Fashion”, however, local shops do not have this capacity to produce. So, this type of fashion is causing problems to the traditional ones. For example, if you want to buy a sweater, in Zara it may cost forty euros but in Pollyanna, a local shop in Andorra, it might cost one hundred euros. Everyone would choose the Zara one, even though the quality is the worst. So, these brands are making the local ones disappear and creating problems for the workers.

In conclusion, as far as I am concerned, every customer must avoid brands associated with fast fashion, because they pollute a lot, the working conditions are miserable and they take the work of local shops. If we ignore these consequences, we may face social and environmental problems that can no longer be reserved.
